Health & safety

Before your piercing

Your safety comes first. Please read this before you book and tell your artist about anything below. It stays private between you and the studio.

Tell us before booking if you have

Pregnant or breastfeeding
Diabetes
Heart condition or high blood pressure
Blood-thinning medication or a bleeding disorder
Epilepsy or seizures
Immune condition, chemotherapy or recent surgery
Skin condition where you want the work (eczema, psoriasis, rash, moles, sunburn)
Allergies (latex, nickel or other metals, inks, antiseptics)
History of keloid or raised scarring
A blood-borne condition such as hepatitis or HIV (kept confidential)

Most of these don’t stop you getting work done. They help us plan, and we may ask you to check with your doctor first.

We can’t go ahead if you

Have had alcohol or drugs in the last 24 hours
Feel unwell, have a fever or an infection
Have broken, irritated or sunburnt skin where the work will go
Can’t show valid photo ID
Are under 18 without a parent or guardian present with ID

Get ready

Eat a proper meal and drink plenty of water
Get a good night’s sleep
Wear loose, comfortable clothes that give easy access to the area
Arrive on time with clean skin and no lotion on the area
Keep taking any prescribed medication. Never stop medication without asking your doctor

Aftercare basics

Clean with sterile saline twice a day
Don’t twist or change the jewellery until it has healed
Avoid the sea, pools and hot tubs while it heals
Healing times vary from weeks to months depending on the piercing
